O sacred Head, surrounded. Henry Williams Baker* (1821-1877). This translation of three stanzas of the great Passiontide hymn by Paul Gerhardt*, ‘O Haupt voll Blut und Wunden’* was made by Sir Henry Williams Baker* for the First Edition of A&M (1861). With some alterations it has remained in use in successive editions of A&M, up to and including A&MCP and A&MRW, although the former book also prints the translation by Robert Bridges*, ‘O sacred Head, sore wounded’*, as an alternative (A&MRW prints Baker's text only).
